Graphene with ultrahigh intrinsic strength and excellent thermal physical properties has the potential to be used as the reinforcement of many kinds of composites, so that use of graphene-based thermal management systems.
The ZTE company presents their new smartphone Axon 30 packs a medium battery with 4,200mAh and supports fast charging via a 55W fast charger.
To keep the temperature under control, the phone also has a “triple ice cooling system” comprising a large VC cooling plate, high power thermal gel, and graphene copper composite material.

Here, we show that very high tensile strength can be obtained in the copper matrix composite reinforced by reduced graphene oxide (RGO) when the micro-layered structure is achieved, even higher than that of carbon nanotube, multilayer graphene, carbon nanofiber, and RGO in the copper matrix composites produced by conventional MLM method. The excellent tensile and compressive strengths, high hardness, and good electrical conductivity are obtained simultaneously in the RGO-Cu composites.

So many companies investing in graphene teamed up with the University of Manchester and the University of Cambridge and launched R&D programs focused on using graphene as a high-performance thermal conductor. One of these gains, Huawei’s team at Manchester patented a way to use graphene fillers in heat-conductive materials (thermal pads). Meanwhile, researchers at Cambridge developed a refined graphene cooling solution and filed a joint patent with Huawei.

The Axon 30 is not the first smartphone with a graphene cooling system but some companies present it in their smartphones.
But Axon 30, is the second smartphone from ZTE with an under-display camera. The first attempt, the Axon 20, was a failed one; the selfie camera on that thing produced hazy photos in all lighting conditions, and the camera was clearly visible to the naked eye when displaying a light-colored background in the status bar. ZTE says the latest model, equipped with a new generation under-display camera, doesn’t suffer from any such issues and is good for users to avoid old generation disappointment.
